White Deer Plain

Set on the plains of Shaanxi Province, two clans are at war for land and a woman in this historical film based on the classic 1993 novel by Chen Zhongshi. Starting from the downfall of the Qing Dynasty and extending across several generations to the Chinese Civil War, Wang Quanan's epic tells the story of a battle between sons of feuding families and a villager leader's concubine. The film also raises questions on the origins of nationalism and the disintegration of Confucian ideals.
