A High Horse in Dalian

Kicking up a political storm last week was news of an all-women's mounted police unit in Dalian city. The local public security bureau announced the city has 65 women trained for police duty on horses and each horse costs 2,500 yuan per month to maintain.

The controversy began with a May 26 comment posted by a retired police officer named Zhao Ming, calling for budget information disclosure on a number of items including Dalian's mounted police horse unit.
