Kou Yanding, in addition to her work helping the disabled, has written a new book about the average citizen's power to improve a country through civic action. Drawing on the economic theories of Ludwig von Mises, Kou refutes the typical argument that philanthropy alone is a public good, and advocates instead for civic engagement, particularly in China.
