China's amended Elderly Protection Law came into effect on July 1. The law stipulates that family members cannot neglect the elderly and are required to care for their spiritual needs. Family members who do not live with their aging parents must visit them regularly. Employers, likewise, must guarantee their workers leave to be able to see their parents.
