The Development of Autonomy

No matter the practice, whether it be medicine, painting, politics or even combat, each discipline has its own culture and tradition. To practice a tradition, or to be suffused with tradition, implies autonomy and self-governance among a group of people. A continuous phase of activities or events does not constitute tradition; it is a certain autonomous development which generates tradition.
