With the popular use of cloud computing technology, many have fewer concerns over data loss surrounding a personal computer or device. Remote servers operated by companies such as Google and Amazon and advances in communication technologies have broken down the tyranny of distance. However, in the aftermath of revelations made by whistleblower Edward Snowden, it appears a "balkanization" of the Internet could be ahead.
