Myanmar in Transition and Why Politics Matter

The following is the transcript of a speech given by Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi at a Singapore summit in 2013.

I am particularly happy to address a meeting in an ASEAN nation.

ASEAN itself has been around since 1967. But in 1947, before he died, and in one of his very last speeches, my father talked about an association of Asian nations. That was long ago, but he had this vision that one day all our Asian nations would be able to get together and form a strong, united bloc.
