Shanghai Officials Merge Two Large Newspaper Companies

(Shanghai) – Two media companies merged to form the Shanghai Newspaper Group on October 28, a move one expert sees as a turning point for traditional newspapers struggling in the digital era.

The move, orchestrated by the government of Shanghai, sees the Jiefang Daily Group and Wenhui Xinmin Group merge. Three newspapers involved – the Jiefang Daily, Wenhui Daily and Xinmin Evening Newspaper – will keep separate newsrooms.
