Poverty in the Midst of Affluence: How Hong Kong Mismanaged Its Prosperity
The title of Leo F. Goodstadt's latest book only hints at the anger that seethes beneath the surface. This well-argued, well-documented and passionate book should be required reading for anyone that wishes to comment on Hong Kong politics, economics or society. Those who agree with Goodstadt—who headed Hong Kong's Central Policy Unit from 1989-1997—will find here much of the necessary rigor to argue for policy change; those who disagree must counter his positions with data and analysis at least as deep and well-reasoned.
