Sichuan Tycoon Charged with Raft of Crimes
Prosecutors in Hubei province have charged Liu Han, chairman of Sichuan Hanlong Group, with a range of gang-related crimes. Prosecutors say Liu and 37 others organized murders and other illegal activities. Liu was put under house arrest in March last year by public security officials in Beijing, and formally arrested in July. The Ministry of Public Security appointed prosecutors in the central province of Hubei to handle the investigation in April 2013, sources close to the situation say. Liu is based in the southwestern province of Sichuan. Hanlong Group has businesses in mining and energy. Liu was a close business partner of Zhou Bin, the son of a former top leader. Zhou is embroiled in a corruption investigation.
