Today and Tomorrow
The fragility of the so-called "ant tribe" predicament is explored through a story about three recent graduates that move to a village on the outskirts of Beijing. With a modern style, Chinese director Yang Huilong avoids moralizing over the plight of the three friends seemingly stuck in career limbo. The film examines the pressures placed on a growing segment of young, college-educated people in China with expectations of upward mobility which have been thwarted. Wang, Ran Ran and Jie each attempt to balance their outlook and optimism on life with the challenges they face in landing their dream job.
