(Beijing) – Paul Volcker has enjoyed a long and distinguished career at the center of U.S. economic policymaking. From 1979 to 1987, he served as chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve under presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, and was widely praised for the way he tackled the country's inflation problems.
After 20 years of prominent roles in both the public and private sector, Volcker was thrust back into the national spotlight in 2009 when President Barack Obama appointed him chairman of the Economic Recovery Advisory Board. He was charged with the difficult task of not only speeding up economic recovery after the financial crisis, but also with preventing another one.
