Officials Who Closed 'Baby Hatch' Abandoned Their Duty
After trying the idea out for less than two months, the southern city of Guangzhou has announced it was suspending its "safe baby hatch" program, which provided a secure place to leave abandoned infants to increase their chances of survival.
Since Guangzhou's Children's Social Welfare Home started the program, 262 babies were anonymously dropped off. The number exceeded both expectations and the orphanage's capacity.
