Sound Activism in Wenzhou

Recently, some 600 families in Wenzhou, in the eastern province of Zhejiang, decided they were fed up with the mind-numbing music blaring out of speakers for outdoor dancers in the city's Guogang Square. Together they pooled 260,000 yuan to pay for a powerful loudspeaker system to blast a recording of the Prevention and Control of Noise Pollution Law. The acoustic admonition, played repeatedly at high volume, successfully repelled the elderly dancers from their dawn till dusk schedule of activities in the square.
