Commercial Banks Wary about Credit for Shipbuilders

(Beijing) – Commercial banks have reined in the issuing of credit to most shipbuilding companies because many are struggling to collect payments from buyers abandoning their orders, a banker with knowledge of the situation said.

Many buyers no longer want the ships they ordered because demand for shipping has been weak and they do not need new vessels, the executive at Shanghai Pudong Development Bank said.
