The 'Ifs' that Could Prevent Tragedies in Regulators' Offices

Another financial regulator has died. Li Jianhua, director of the banking regulator's Non-bank Financial Institutions Supervision Department, died from a heart attack on April 23 after working through the night. He was only 49.

Accidents happen all the time, but some can be prevented. There is a limit to the amount of work a person can handle. For someone in his late 40s and 50s, working to midnight or even staying up until the early morning can be the last straw. This is not the first time a financial regulator died prematurely because of work. In fact, it is common for many to work overtime every day and even on weekends.
