Shenzhen Holds Auction for Carbon Emission Quotas

(Shenzhen) – Shenzhen recently held an auction for carbon emissions quotas to help companies emitting more carbon dioxide than they are allowed to.

The southern city launched a carbon emissions trading scheme covering 635 companies in June last year, and the total quota was 100 million tons over three years. These firms emitted about 38 percent of the city's total carbon dioxide in 2010.
