Iraq's Insurgency Upsets Plans for Range of Chinese Businesses

(Beijing) – The Chinese workers trapped at a power plant building site in the northern Iraqi city of Samarra for three weeks have left the country, but thousands of Chinese citizens remain behind, along with large projects facing an uncertain future.

Some 1,300 people working on the China Machinery Engineering Corp. (CMEC) project arrived in Baghdad on June 27. They were stuck at the construction site for three weeks because a jihadist group seized the area. They left on two helicopters and 12 buses, two workers who were rescued said.
