For the Love of Illusions

When Transformers: Age of Extinction packed cinemas earlier this summer, the popularity of the movie also raised an oft-asked question: Why aren't there any Chinese hit machines? The question can be asked in so many other realms of the world stage. For all of its admiration, the country does not have a notable presence in soccer. The United States is great at film production but not soccer, and Brazil shines in soccer but not films. Perhaps every country possesses advantages unique to their society, but China has not yet found its special niche.
