Women's Group Rejects Legislator's Idea for Three Years of Maternity Leave
(Beijing) – A Beijing legislator's proposal to give Chinese women a world-beating three years of maternity leave has been rejected by a women's group for a second time.
Women in China get 98 days of maternity leave paid for by their employers, but Wang Youjun, president of the high-tech firm Beijing Watchdata System Co. Ltd. and a deputy to the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, has proposed that mothers be allowed to stay home with their newborns for 1,095 days.
