(Beijing) – As the 110th anniversary of the birth of the late leader Deng Xiaoping approaches on August 22, memorial activities are being held across the country.

Deng was born in Guang'an, in the southwestern province of Sichuan, in 1904. He became the paramount leader of China, and the architect of reform and opening up. With the central government vowing to deepen reforms, this year's commemoration has grabbed the public's attention and is being examined for hints of the future political landscape.
