That Japanese soldiers were responsible for widespread sexual violence during the second Sino-Japanese war is well-known. Immediately following the end of the war, Chiang Kai-Shek established tribunals to investigate the atrocities committed by the Japanese Army; continuing under Communist rule, these made known the scale of the mistreatment of Chinese civilians and soldiers.
