Graphics: China And Terrorism

(Beijing) – China was ranked 25 of 162 countries in terms of the impact terrorism has had on it, according to an index published on November 18 by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), a non-profit think tank based in Australia. The IEP's Global Terrorism Index 2014 aims to be a comprehensive study of terrorism that accounts for the direct and indirect impact of attacks on countries around the world. It uses indicators such as the number of attacks, fatalities, injuries and property damage. The first GTI was published in 2012; this year's index is the second edition. This year's version, which is based on information collected in 2013, says almost 10,000 terror attacks were recorded last year, resulting in about 18,000 deaths. More than 60 percent of the attacks occurred in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria and Syria. China was among the 24 countries that lost over 50 lives to attacks.
