ACrime fiction, whodunits and mysteries constitute one of the more diverse genres in English-language publishing. Not only are there all the books set in the author's home country, English-language writers have set entire series overseas (Martin Cruz Smith's Gorky Park comes to mind) or with atypical detectives in unusual locations or the past (the Cadfael series features a medieval monk as detective) while immigrant writers have set series in their home countries (for example, Qiu Xiaolong's Inspector Chen series).
