(Stockholm) – The 2014 Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel was awarded to a French economist who since the 1980s has been working on ways to tame powerful companies and tailor government regulations to different industries.

Jean Tirole, a professor at the University of Toulouse, received the prize at the Stockholm Concert Hall on December 10. The 61-year-old academic is well-known for his research in areas such as industrial organization, oligopoly regulation and financial markets oversight.
