Shanghai FTZ Starts Pilot Allowing Parallel Imports of Vehicles

(Beijing) – A pilot in the Shanghai Free-Trade Zone that allows the sale of parallel imports of foreign vehicles has started, an experiment that could save consumers as much as 20 percent.

A notice posted on the website of the Shanghai commerce commission on January 7 said the pilot for parallel imports – a reference to companies importing products from markets where prices are lower despite lacking manufacturer authorization – had started. It was unclear when the pilot got underway.
