Banks Trying Direct Route to Online Future

(Beijing) – The country's largest bank is campaigning for regulatory changes that would let new customers open accounts without ever stepping into a branch.
Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has lent its voice to a chorus of fledgling, Internet-only banks and traditional banks with online services seeking exceptions to government rules that require anyone opening an account to visit a branch to provide a signature and undergo a security review.
