Gov't Support for Beijing Firms Hiring Locals 'Is Discrimination'

(Beijing) – The Beijing city government plans to offer incentives to employers who hire locals as part of efforts to rein in the population of the crowded capital, a move academics said would be discriminatory.

Liu Xiaojun, head of the Employment Promotion Division in the city's labor bureau, said on March 3 that the capital is working on policies that would reward employers who hire workers with Beijing household registration, or hukou.
