England's Yellow Peril

Chinese migration to the UK began in the early 19th century, when seamen from China's treaty ports began to settle in the docklands of London and Liverpool. Today, there are nearly half a million Chinese Britons, making the UK diaspora one of the largest and oldest in Europe. Yet, the history of Chinese emigration to the British isles and, in particular, that of the social attitudes which emerged towards those immigrants, remains relatively unexplored.
