Nursing Home Fire Exposes Struggles of Elderly People in Rural Areas

(Beijing) – A deadly fire at a rural nursing home in the central province of Henan has shed light on the problems China's elderly people face when their children move to cities for work.

The fire broke out at the Kangleyuan Elderly Rehabilitation Center in the village of Sanlihe in Henan's Lushan County on the night of May 25. Authorities said 38 elderly people were killed and six more were injured, two of them critically.
