219.72 Yuan per Day for Wrongful Jailing? Experts Say Not Enough

(Beijing) – The government has increased its financial payout to people who are wrongly imprisoned, but two legal experts say the new amount – 219.72 yuan per day – is not enough to compensate individuals for losing their freedom.

The Supreme People's Court said in a statement on May 27 that people who are wrongly jailed will get 19.03 yuan more per day than they had in the past. The changes take effect immediately.
