Anhui Court Apologizes to 19 Wrongfully Convicted in Scam Case

(Beijing) – The highest court in Anhui Province has published an apology in a newspaper to 19 people who it says were wrongfully convicted in a case involving an illegal fund-raising scam five years ago – a mea culpa that one law professor says is the first of its kind in China.
The High People's Court, in the eastern province's capital of Hefei, published the apology in the Bozhou Evening News on September 7. The court said that 19 people who used to work at an investment company in the city of Bozhou had been cleared following a review of their case by prosecutors in October last year.
