Ancient Water Town Turns In To Stage for World Theater

Wuzhen, a sleepy water town in east China's Zhejiang Province, has slowly seen its fortunes change over the past three years, after it started hosting an international theater festival, but critics say authorities have prioritized tourism over protecting local culture.
The 1,300-year-old water-town, which is an hour's drive from Shanghai, is famous for its exquisite wooden architecture. In recent years this idyllic setting has turned into a melting pot for emerging artists.
