Proposal Would Ban Workers in Pay Disputes from Making Suicide Threats

(Beijing) – Authorities in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, have proposed punishing builders who make suicide threats during their protests over unpaid wages, after a number of cases in the central city and in other parts of the country made national headlines in recent years.

Zhengzhou officials unveiled a draft regulation on April 22 that prohibits acts such as climbing on cranes or buildings and threatening to jump, saying offenders will be handed over to the judicial system.
