World of Warcraft Storms China Box Office

(Beijing) - Despite being panned by film critics in the United States, the Hollywood fantasy epic World of Warcraft eclipsed the 1 billion yuan ($151 million) mark in its first six days of screening in China, banking on the nation's massive base of fans for the popular computer game series that the movie is based on.
The film, which premiered in China on June 8, took in 1.05 billion yuan through June 13, according to Engroup Inc., a Chinese media and entertainment consultant that tracks China's box office, the world's second largest. The film accounted for an unusually high 71.7 percent of film ticket sales during the period, Engroup said.
