WeChat Slams Brakes on Baidu-Backed Taxi-Hailing Service

(Beijing) – A homegrown car-hailing company backed by search giant Baidu Inc. complained that popular messaging service WeChat has been intermittently blocking users from accessing its website via the app starting from July 12.

The messaging app is owned by Tencent Holdings Ltd., which also has a stake in Yidao's biggest rival Didi Chuxing Technology Co., and has a history of blocking access to competing ride-hailing services, highlighting fierce competition among China's Internet conglomerates.
