(Beijing) - A central government official overseeing disaster mitigation efforts admitted that a lack of oversight on flood prevention facilities was partly to blame for the high death toll during the recent floods in northern China, one of the worst to hit the region in six decades.

At least 130 people died in the northern province of Hebei alone after the area was inundated after a heavy downpour in July.
