QDII Quotas Become Latest Hot Commodity

(Beijing) — When China's stock and bond markets were booming and the yuan was appreciating, domestic investors had little interest in overseas capital markets. The Qualified Domestic Institutional Investor (QDII) program, until 2014 the only avenue for legally gaining access to offshore markets under the country's capital controls, was languishing, and billions of dollars' worth of investment quotas were left unwanted and unused.
