New Rules Target Corrupt Officials in Abuse of Commutation, Parole

(Beijing) — The Supreme People's Court has issued a new set of rules on the oversight of sentence commutation and the parole system — a bid to rein in abuse of the system by officials convicted of corruption, or those with money.

The Supreme Court, the country's highest, said the new regulations, released on Tuesday, spell out in greater detail the grounds under which an inmate can qualify for a commutation of a sentence and parole, and how much — and how often — they can have their terms commuted.
