Airbnb Eyes Major China Expansion in Pursuit of Local Millennials

(Beijing) — Homestay specialist Airbnb said on Wednesday it will sharply accelerate its China presence over the next two years as it aims to quickly become the market's largest provider of its shared-economy services.

The announcement came after Airbnb formally launched its China-based service this week.

The U.S. company also will provide local officials with information about travelers and homeowners who use its China-based services, a move in accordance with Chinese law and consistent with the way all hotel visitors in the country must provide identity cards or passports when they register, Airbnb spokesman Nick Papas told Caixin in an email interview.
