Quick Take: Didi, Meituan to Share Data With Credit-Scoring Agencies

Two of China’s major tech players have answered the government’s call by joining a national credit-scoring database.
Didi Chuxing, China’s top ride-hailing firm, and Meituan-Dianping, the largest app for on-demand services such as movie tickets and takeout, have signed an agreement to work with government agencies on the centralized personal credit scoring database.
The national database will be jointly built by the National Development and Reform Commission, China’s top economic planner, and the State Information Center.
According to the China News Service, the center is said to have already collected 14 billion pieces of information on individuals and companies across various sectors.
The authorities have pulled in major e-commerce companies into the project. Earlier participants include internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd., e-retailer JD.com Inc., electronics retailer Suning Commerce Group Co. Ltd., and anti-virus company Qihoo 360 Technology Co. Ltd.
