China’s cosmetic-surgery sector is booming — and the patients are mostly young people.

Over half (54%) of such procedures this year were on people under the age of 28, according to a report released Thursday by Chinese beauty-industry app-maker igengmei.

The report suggests that 22 million Chinese paid for cosmetic-related procedures in 2018, at an average cost of 22,000 yuan ($3,200) per person for the year

The report included all common cosmetic procedures, including nose jobs and face lifts. But the top three procedures were hyaluronic acid injections, photo-rejuvenation, and double-eyelid surgery.

The industry is growing at an astounding 30% per year in China, with revenue over 495 billion yuan in 2018, the report estimates.
