High-level Malaysian Delegation to Take Part in EEF 2019 for First Time

Adviser to the Russian President Anton Kobyakov held a meeting in Moscow with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Malaysia to the Russian Federation Mat Dris Haji Yaacob during which they discussed a Malaysian delegation’s participation in the fifth Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on 4–6 September.

“Russia is interested in developing cooperation with Malaysia in trade, military-technical, and humanitarian affairs. In order to develop trade relations between our countries more intensively, we invite Malaysia to cooperate with the Eurasian Economic Community, which is a promising platform for the formation of common international markets. This year, we are hosting a high-level Malaysian delegation in Vladivostok for the first time. We are also expecting representatives of business from this country, particularly since Malaysia has a number of major investment projects in Russia”, said Kobyakov, who also serves as Executive Secretary of the Eastern Economic Forum Organizing Committee.

“The Malaysian delegation at the Forum will be led by Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad,” Yaacob said.

The two officials reviewed preparations for Mohamad’s visit and the programme of his activities at the EEF. In particular, the prime minister will speak at the Forum’s plenary session, the key event of the EEF, which will be held on 5 September.

They also discussed prospects for cooperation between the Roscongress Foundation and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation as well as the Malaysian media.

Kobyakov and Yaacob paid particular attention to Malaysia’s participation in key events of the Roscongress Foundation. Yaacob noted that the Malaysian prime minister may take part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2020. They also considered the possibility of athletes from Malaysia participating in the Jigoro Kano International Judo Tournament under the

patronage of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as part of the EEF 2020 sports programme.
