Trip.com, China's biggest online travel agency, announced a partnership with JD Group that will allow the two companies to share online traffic and resources, following signs that travel is picking up as China brings the pandemic under control.

In twin statements the companies said Trip.com will bring competitively-priced tickets to the table, while JD will offer its 8 million corporate and 400 million individual users, livestreaming resources and marketing prowess.

It was not immediately clear how the companies will work together or what the development will mean for JD's existing travel unit.

China's e-commerce giants have been exploring new business areas, including the country's travel market. Fliggy, a travel services platform fully owned by China's No. 1 retailer Alibaba, had 416 million monthly active users in the second quarter, according to market research firm Statista.
