Tencent’s Office Collaboration App WeChat Work Houses 5.5 Million Enterprises

By Ding Yi / Dec 25, 2020 10:06 AM / Business & Tech

Tencent-owned office collaboration app WeChat Work is home to about 5.5 million enterprises and organizations, and has served more than 400 million users this year, according to a WeChat post citing data released at a company event.

Those enterprises and organizations run businesses in industries ranging from retail and hospitality to education and government services management, the post said.

The figures come as WeChat Work has enjoyed staggering growth in downloads in China since the Covid-19 pandemic increased demand for telecommuting in the early months of this year.

Currently, WeChat Work has approximately 130 million active users, a result of the app rolling out improved functions including ad blocking, blacklisting rule breakers and connecting WeChat Work accounts with WeChat accounts, the post added.

WeChat Work said that it plans to establish a 1.2 billion yuan ($184 million) fund to promote the digitalization of its corporate clients, especially in the education and government service sectors.

In September, Tencent renamed WeChat Work as WeCom for overseas users, in a widely believed move to avoid a U.S. ban on WeChat-related transactions, Reuters reported.
