What’s new: Wang Jianjun, head of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, was named deputy chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), the country’s top securities regulatory body, the State Council said.

Wang, 53, will become the youngest of the CSRC’s senior leaders. Replacing retired Deputy Chair Yan Qingmin, Wang will oversee the commission’s public listing, investor protection and market operations, people familiar with the matter said.

Background: Wang is a veteran official in China’s securities regulatory system, having worked 24 years at the CSRC in various positions.

Wang joined the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2016 as deputy Communist Party chief and general manager. He became the bourse’s party chief and chairman in March 2020.

Wang has been an advocate of enhancing investor protection in China and a promoter of overhauling the initial public offering system at the Shenzhen exchange.
