Omicron Multiplies 70 Times Faster Than Delta, Study Shows

Preliminary findings from University of Hong Kong research on the omicron coronavirus variant show that although it grows up to 70 times faster than delta and the original strain of Covid-19 in the bronchial tract, it replicates at least 10 times slower in lung tissue, suggesting less severity of disease.

The study adds detail to previous research from the university showing that two doses of China’s Sinovac vaccine are inadequate to counter the highly transmissible variant.
