South China Omicron Cluster Grows as Travel Bans Imposed

The city of Zhuhai in Guangdong has reported seven local cases of the omicron variant of Covid-19, including one asymptomatic case, as more Chinese provinces find cases of the highly infectious strain.

The cases, which include a family of four with young children aged four and nine, were reported at a Friday evening press conference. Mei Wenhua, party secretary of Zhuhai Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said they were all part of the same cluster, but that authorities had not found the source.
