Hong Kong has responded to a Covid-19 outbreak that has “overwhelmed” the city’s capacity by establishing task forces with mainland officials to coordinate support for testing, quarantine, treatment and food supplies, according to Chief Executive Carrie Lam.

The city is battling its worst outbreak since the pandemic began, overwhelming hospitals and causing vegetable prices to soar. In the past two weeks through Sunday, nearly 8,000 people had been infected. On Monday, daily infections hit a new record of 2,071, up from 1,347 the day before, according to health officials.
