Greater Bay Airlines Co. Ltd. has obtained a five-year license to run scheduled commercial flights out of Hong Kong, posing a challenge to its bigger rival Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. in the city, which is going through its worst outbreak of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

The license, issued by Hong Kong’s Air Transport Licensing Authority (ATLA) on Monday, allows Greater Bay Airlines to operate flights carrying passengers, cargo and mail on 104 routes to and from Hong Kong International Airport until Feb. 20, 2027, according to a statement released by the ATLA. No further details were given.
